Hutch Redo...

I have gotten a lot of questions about my hutch.  It dawned on me that I posted about it on my personal blog before I went private with it.  I figured that I would re-post the story on this blog, which seems more appropriate anyways :)

The story:
When hubs asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day last year, I told him that I wanted to find an old hutch to refinish.  He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "you want me to buy you something used and something that you have to work on for Mother's Day?"  I said, "Yes!"  He said, "Wouldn't you rather just buy one that is already done from a furniture store?"  I said, "NO!"  So we went shopping.  We hit every antique, thrift and consignment store around.  Finally, in the very back corner in the clearance section of a consignment store, I found this beauty:

I told Hubs, "This is it.  I have to have it".  He said, "It has no glass".  I said, "I don't want glass, it's perfect".  So he asked the owner how much she wanted for it, she gave a price that I was more than willing to pay, but Hubs said, "It has no glass, I'm going to have to buy glass for it", as he is elbowing me to keep my mouth shut about the fact that I didn't want glass...  Anyways, she then accepted an offer that seemed ridiculously low to me and we took this baby home!  Thank heaven for Hubs bargaining skills, they have save me lots of money!!!

After prepping it, we painted it bone white:

Then we distressed the heck out of it and put a walnut stain over it:

Next up, we put chicken coop wire where the glass should be.  This is where Hubs really thought I was insane.  Oh ye of little faith!

That's the story!  It has become one of my most treasured possessions, I just love it!

    1. Thank you Marisa! And yes, had we bought it this way, it would have been ridiculously priced and I wouldn't have loved it as much as I do knowing that I helped make it :)
